A friend of mine was asked to be godfather to his best friend from college's son. As he was desperate to out do the godmother when it came to gifts (as any good Catholic is), I suggested an artist that I thought would totally capture the spirit of our friends' growing family and give him a thoughtful and creative way to acknowledge the event.
Thankfully artist Emily Gross was up to the task and after many covert emails back and forth about the family and touches we thought would make the portrait fun, we finally arrived at a beautiful finished product right on time for the ceremony. The mother is French and I suggested that a French prayer or blessing be included and she thought that Celine's earrings could look like little water droplets symbolizing the baptism. Brilliant! A few quick changes, some subtle highlights and swapping Remi's blanket for something a little more baptism-y and I was able to shut up and let Emily's own creativity and clever illustration work its magic. Sll it took was a few good stories about our friends and she nailed it. Thanks Emily!
